you are assuming that I have done no reading on this? also that all modern trends (key word-trends) in anthropology and psychology are the same and agree completely? These ideas started with freud, and were elaborated upon by some more contemporary psycho analysts, the new age is kind of a joke- an attempt by modern man to find meaning in his life by integrating and assuming the paths and practices of others into his life. In a way, you are right about the individual, because discoveries in physics over the past century have basically shown that the tao exists, only in more scientific terms...this will be especially true if string theory is correct, but it may never be proven as we'd have to have a particle accelerator about the size of this country to even begin to observe things that small.
You have clearly never read Jung, Henderson, or even Kant...Carl Jung interpreted 80,000 dreams, and has an incredible knowledge of symbols. After you have interpreted 10,000 dreams, maybe you can come back and talk some shit to him, i'd love to hear it. But we arent talking about stretching or romanticizing the basic facts. We are talking about empirical evidence that if one looks at with an open and well informed mind, one can clearly and distinctly observe the results. The importance doesnt neccessarily lie in the same practices either, it lies in the symbols and archetypes that have been emerging from the human subconcious globally since ancient times. I worry when someone is so quick to reduce the human to a simple machine, or compare it to a car. We still do not have the subconcious, or ourselves completely figured out, geniuses have been in front of that mirror, torn apart by that mirror, spent their whole lives in trying to figure that reflection out and never found solace. I will agree that humans operate in certain "systems" or rythms, this is the way that the world operates aside from its base composition. And I would be curious who you have to put up to that who has found certain patterns with in said systems.
Good for you for disagreeing with my blanca ass with an informed opinion, but again, never let no academia get you too high up on yourself. You're 30? We all got decades to learn more. The more you learn should show you just how much more there is to know.
