Things are good. I got a raise and it looks like I will be able to buy a house early next year. There's no indication that I will be laid off anytime soon and for the first time ever I am not in fear of losing a job at any minute.

These are all signs of the apocalypse, of course.

Wowzers. Congratulations. Those lurking job-fears are the worst. Make you feel like the earth might shift at any moment. Portland is a good place to buy a house, imo. It's kinda like Marin used to be, but with some industry and reality thrown in, in the form of an actual city with public transportation, railroad and river. I have quite a few friends and family who've migrated there. Good record stores, that helps.

So didja go to Drake?

Nope, I went to Redwood. My kid is at Drake right now, and I work for the Ross Valley district.
