This is one of the most unique approaches to painting that I have seen in quite a while. The artist's name is Keng Lye, and he creates 3D paintings in resin. He achieves this by painting them layer by layer (i.e. he pours a thin layer of resin, lets it harden, paints the lowest elements of the subject he is creating, then repeats the process and works his way up). The result is pretty phenomenal. He has also started to incorporate elements that protrude out of the "water". For instance the body and eyes of the octopus are painted stones coated in resin.
