The idea is to reinvent to family structure entirely. So you're not evaluating it within the vocabulary of the old structure. Keep it an open discussion, talk to the kids about what we do differently from other families.
In essense, we'd be two people who care a lot about eachother, but who had chosen very deliberately to come together to raise kids. No pretense of romance that creates problems when the romance dies. OUr kids get a mother and a father who are both around most of the time, they just aren't chained to eachother.
But it's not going to happen anyway, at leat in the foreseeable future.
