Yeah I go to SU.... I know NOTHING about the poetry program. Do we have one?? haha - I don't even know. Did you check their website? I would email some current grad students in it and ask them what they think. They are normally listed on the department webpage. Sorry I'm not more help.
9. I choose a quote out of a book/article/whatever that I like and just free-write on it. Whatever I want. Normally this ends up turning into part of my paper, but I don't think about that while I'm writing it.
When I have writer's block I try to read something that might inspire me and sometimes I just step away from the computer and do something brainless for a little while, then try again.
Other times I just force myself to write something down and work thru it - but that's not very much fun sometimes.
Of course, there's always drinking In all seriousness, a careful amount of alcohol can sometimes make me forget I'm worked up and can't write and then I just write.
10. It always seems longer than it actually is.
8. Too bad I wan't there. I actually have quite a few nice black dresses that would probably fit ya.
7. I have been fortunate to avoid that drug.
6. & 5. Interesting! Let us know how that goes!
4. I'm not a big fan of sushi. BUT ahi sashimi mmmmmmm...
3. As long as you're not jonesing for chocolate covered potato chips, I think you'll be ok.
2. I like the # format cause it is easy to respond to everything
1. I'm doing.
Dude, I'm really glad you posted the results because I wasn't home to watch. Fuck everyone else, even if he's not being totally serious, he's being a complete dick.
the poem in my journal was accepted by Free Lunch, a small mag on the west coast. The editor has worked with me at making improvements on my poems, which is quite helpful and pretty rare.
I usually submit to small places and places that are considered more prestigious (like West Branch, sometimes even the New Yorker ) because you never know if a poem might strike a chord with an editor at a well-known place.
I use the Poet's Market for ideas on where to submit. I read through each mag's blurb and get a feel if my poems would be welcomed there. I've had some luck with Midwest Quarterly, Distillery, Descant and Big City Lit. However, I don't know if these places would work for you since I haven't seen any of your work and don't know if our writing has anything in common - care to share a poem or two with me
Hey chica. I didn't read your journal because I'm a bit tipsy and I just wanted to tell you right NOW that you're never not gay enough.
I always laugh when it comes up. The way I see it... either you lick box or you don't. Not to be crass about it, but since when did straight guys just start sucking cock when "gay" became cool???
We (as bisexuals) will always combat this stereotype and it's a cross we must bear. The sad, sad fact is that there are many straight women who decide to perform "lesbian" acts to entice and turn on their men and they are the ones who give the rest of us a bad name.
But when it comes down to it... we just are who we are. Either we are accepted for our true selves or we aren't. And from my standpoint... those who choose to look at us as our stereotype and not ourselves.. well they are little better than a nazi.
But I'm a bit tipsy right now so I hope that wasn't a tangent.
Just a thought on #9 (#9 #9 #9 #9 - oops, sorry flashed into a beatles song)
Best answer I've ever seen for writers block (worked for me) is just sit down and start typing ANYTHING. random words, stuff from the newspapers, just ANYthing. And from there you "sneak up" on the thing you want to write about - it works for me because once I get the mechanics going (yaknow, fingers typing, eyes on monitor, brain starting to engage in the RIGHT way) it's easier to get passed the block.
Also, a friend of mine gave me a wooden anti-writers block block:
which does actually help sometimes too
Mostly I just make myself do it - it usually comes out crappy but since editing my crappy writing (or crappy code these days since I haven't done any serious writing for along time) engages different parts of the brain I still end up with something useful/usable by the time I'm done reworking it .
(dang, messed up the second image the first and second time)
Anyone who hates you number system shall answer to me!!
Anyway about your IM, talk to Veganyenta or someone else that works for that company and ask them a few questions. Also I say wait a week, and call back, wait another week and call back again, then move on. Also for future reference or to help anyone else out, the time to make sure you speak with someone is when you are dropping off the application. Find out when the store manager is working and make sure you put it into their hands.
so call next week, and then if you want the week after that. If niether call gets you an interview or a call back then apply elsewhere, which you should do anyway.
yeah dude, I just saw that shit today. No wonder. HA! Well, it's good to know that I've only posted pics here on SG and I'm still keeping up with a "Porn Star" hehehe. Whatever. I'm hoping to get some more votes in the next couple days. I think the contest actually ends in a couple days, so if I can just keep in the lead a litle longer(if I still even am), then just maybe I can win this.
