I've been surprisingly lucky in this respect. I've been in NY for about 14 years, and can honestly say I've never had a nightmare apartment ( knock wood ).
My Latino brothers in the City do like their music up loud. But I have to say, the fact that your neighbor responds is worth a lot. Show's he's not a dick.
When Melissa and I were in Fort Worth, we lived at this kick ass 1920's estate that was converted into apartments. Our neighbors directly above us had very loud sex every night for two months. After awhile, you didn't even notice the moans and "Oh, Tom! Tom! Tom!"
That's my bad neighbor story. Your's is far more interesting.
how easy or hard is it to get a new apartment in New York?
It sounds as though you're getting tortured there.
Or maybe stay there and in a few years you can write about your experiences and then it can be changed into some sort of fantastic comedy show........ you never know.

ha!! musica caliente! that sucks!! I just have to hear about how poorly my neighbor was treated back in 'nam., agent orange, blah blah blah. It's actually pretty amusing. But he never wakes me up!!
