went to denver yesterday to hang with my friends Darren and Jessica. they are moving to Ecuador next week for 2 years. we had a laid back night. a good dinner and then back to the house for a relaxing night of drinking. it rained in denver all sunday so there were lots of neighborhood folks shooting off fireworks. one neighbor imparticular had some big ones, so we hung out in the back yard and watched.
so we're outside for about an hour, and there are fireworks going off everywhere so its really enjoyable.
the we hear BANG BANG BANG and some screaming and we all look at each other and say "those weren't fireworks" and we run into the house hearing BANG BANG BANG again. safely in the house we hear the police show up and that confirms what we already knew . . .. gunshots. and they were close.
we thought at first some idiot was just celebrating by shooting off some rounds but in the distance we started to see camera flashes and realized that there was a pretty serious crime scene going on. so feeling safe and a little drunk we go check it out.
it was literally right around the corner, and the house is 3 houses from the corner. glad the yard is fenced in because we were in range of those shots had we been in the open.
We thought collectively we heard ten shots, but we could only see six evidence markers where shell casings were.
still no idea what went down, a neighbor said (in spanish) it was "a black guy shooting at a chicano guy", and this guys house had a pretty good view.
