Since, I didn't get any responses on my last blog, I thought I would post this bit of good news.
I received this email last night which was freaking amazing to get. It is asking for a reshoot from a shoot that we did earlier this year (how hard that is to imagine being this early in April...but hey, when you shoot as much as I do, it happens). I wanted to do a reshoot with her, but never really got around to emailing her because of how busy I have been with other graduate school work, but this email just speaks for itself.
"Hi Chris,
I’m sorry I'm just now emailing. I had to uninstall my messenger on my phone cause I was getting lots of weird stuff, and I'm terrible about checking my messages without it. Anyway, I wanted to ask you if it might be possible to do a reshoot for the picture?? I just look so sad with the tear running dow my face, like being a Latina is so sad. People have been asking me why I’m so sad. Haha! Anyway, I’m sure you see some artistic value in it (I can’t judge…I don’t have an artistic bone in my body). =)
I really liked the pictures of your subjects in their elements. I think it tells a story about them. They’re really good! Perhaps my story can be part to the picture?? Just to give you a brief background: My story is that I’m an immigrant who came to the U.S., who was undocumented as a child, but was lucky enough to get my citizenship 23 years after applying. I lived in poverty for most of my life and education was my way out. My education is a HUGE part of my identity (I talk about it quite a bit. LOL). I’m the first and only one in my family to go to college (on both sides of my family) and it's through education that I have developed who I am today. I currently work with children of migrant farmworkers, many of them Latino and immigrant just like me! My life’s goal is to help them access higher education so they too can change the trajectory for their family.
Anyway, I hope you will consider my request, but I also understand that this is YOUR project. If you’re willing to do a reshoot, I would be more than happy to meet you somewhere closer to where you are. I remember you said it was kind of difficult to come to the KU campus. If not, I completely understand.
Let me know what you think.
Have a great day!"
So, I guess the images are doing what they are supposed to be doing and are getting people excited about them, and making people interested in the work and wanting to do a sitting. Which is awesome.
I also just booked another shoot for the thesis today, which will be fun. She is a Latina who is into fitness and is getting her graduate degree I believe in Music from KU. We are doing her fitness shoot today, and I am going to try and schedule another time to do her in a concert hall with whatever she plays/sings.
SO, new photos will either come tomorrow or Friday. I also have an event with KU tonight and Friday that I have been working with them on. Here is the flyer for that.
Gotta stay busy some how huh? I will be there for every event photographing and talking to people...this is on top of my classes and photographing Soccer...HA! yeah...I will have no life the next few months.
