WE get pretty awesome storms durring the summer. I love thunderstorms smile
cobrar:
Believe me hun, you'll not be missing out on the storms down here. We get some bad ones, and NC is just the same.
phrogg:
The main difference, I think, between our storms and the midwest is that you tend to see more of the horizon in the midwest (it looks that way from the photos). mrs phrogg grew up in Iowa - totally flat - and used to see amazing storms, incl. funnels, from many many miles away.
foolish_hyena:
I miss having thunderstorms I remember real strong ones when I was a boy but the last few years not more than a few little ones with a tiny bit of thunder and almost not lightning
bratpanties:
I love a good thunderstorm. biggrin
rhanarose:
We had our house hit by lightening 2 years ago - fire and lots of damage - mostly by the firemen!! whatever eeek
I won't ever miss these storms, assuming I ever move out of here........ wink
grayness:
Around here, the mountains are much nicer in the warm part of the year... which is 3/4ths of it.
smile

I think this part of the country is definitely gaining something. smile

If you can, bring some rain with you.
kikibabe:
We're tough in the midwest! We ain't afraid of anything - blizzards, tornadoes, thunderstorms: we can take anything Mother Nature throws at us.
watchtheskies:
Holy shite. Those clouds are excellent.
giggles:
that is a cute little hat
ricos:
I love t-storms too. one time my and a couple of my friends were golfing when the sky just opened up and tornado sirens started going off. My friends wanted to run to the clubhouse but I said "if I make this putt we are staying out you pussies" . So of course Imade a 15 ft downhill breaking put in a downpour with high winds and all hell breaking loose so we stayed out and played through it. smile yeah I'm an idiot but it was fun.
shelterfromcold:
The best thing about T-Storms is staying in bed all day wrapped up in a blanket smile
shelterfromcold:
I actually did that during the week while I was hanging out in the country with some rednecks.
panda_love:
eeek Storms like that always scare me! I get super anxious and nervous! Glad that you guys were ok and didn't get any damaging effects from it. biggrin

If you ever get back to NYC, you'll take the city by "storm".

artificialjoy:
Those are amazing quality pics, what kind of camera phone has that kind of resolution?

We get some nasty storms up here too, including the rare tornado. The tornado storms have had bright green clouds on the leading edge. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen, a 'rolling tube' of cloud up front like a steamroller coloured bright green like jade. Fascinating to look at but you know it's going to be an ugly one.

Last year as I was pulling into the parking lot of my apartment a bolt of lightning hit the electric bus wires not half not 40 years away right in front of me. It was so bright I was blinded for a few seconds and then a BOOOOOM!!! so loud every car alarm for blocks went off. I didn't get to see it since it all happened so fast but the lightning carried down the overhanging cable for the electric bus for more than a mile.
artificialjoy:
It probably should have been scarier than it was. lol It happened so quickly without warning and was over immediately (no delay between lightning & thunder when you're that close) I don't think there was time for it to scare you. It was fun watching people standing on their porches and balconies a few moments later all staring at each other asking "what the hell was that?" lol

I had another time I was even closer to a lightning strike. It was ages ago when I still lived with my parents and they lived in a mobile home. My dad was playing around with short wave radios at that time and had a 40 foot antenna sticking up from the side of the house. The wall it was attached to was from my bedroom. In the middle of the night we had a bolt hit the antenna. The whole place shook like an etch-a-sketch being erased. Woke up pretty quickly let me tell you. lol

The next morning I looked at the antenna and you could see burn and scorch marks when it was grounded. The antenna was about 3 feet from the foot of my bed.
