What you've described is the same message that a handful of people have been trying to get across for decades; nobody ever gets it. You can tell them that they're fucking themselves over until you're blue in the face, but they'll continue to do so just to enjoy the comforts of now without considering the consequences of their actions later on. That's the philosophy of the industrialized world...live in comfort now because it will be someone else's problem later, so who cares? It's really quite sad.
