I wish I could answer your question about Russia and Israel. But unfortunately I really don't know. I think you're probably right that Russia doesn't really care much one way or the other since it's hard to find out much about it.
I do know that Russia was a staunch opponent of Israel during the Cold War because many Arab dictatorships (Iraq, Syria, and Egypt mainly) were willing to align themselves in the Soviet orbit and there was no way in hell a Middle Eastern democracy would ever do that. The Soviet Union took the Arab side in the 1967 6-day war to wipe Israel off the map while the West took Israel's side. For the Russians this wasn't about Israel, though, this was about expanding the reach of totalitarian governments and undermining or destroying democratic and Western governments.
I need to get out, and I have some time off next week (Thursday-Saturday). If you're not too busy with school-type stuffs, would you be opposed to lunch and maybe a movie or something of the sort?
That would be towards the end of mine...I would have the 18th off since that's a Friday, not so sure about other days (my work schedule varies a bit), but I would probably have the 24th off and definately the 25th. I might actually be able to get the 19th off from work if I ask tomorrow.
There was a scheduling mix-up at work, so getting the 19th off shouldn't be a problem for me.
I was thinking movie at Southdale (do you know where that is, or at least have an idea?), they have the nice stadium seating on most of the screens and all since that theater's fairly new. Cheaper than the Mall of America theater, too.
I don't know if you'd want to eat there though, since the fast food places all charge more since it's a mall, and then they've got a few nicer places in there...there's a Ruby Tuesdays in there, though, so that might work.
I'll assume you know where Nicollet Mall/Nicollet Ave is. You can take Nicollet Ave south through Minneapolis to 66th Street, then take a right and follow 66th Street to York Ave and it's on the left.
If not, you can take 35W south to the 66th Street exit, take a right, and follow 66th to York.
