up in the upper right by your name and 'edit preferences' it should say '1 friend request' (or maybe more) click on that and then you accept or decline those that want to be your friend.

oh, and if someone leaves you a comment in your journal, you should respond in theirs, just to make sure they see it. just another helpful tip for the new girl.
