So here we go...
Thursday, April 27th, 2006:
I finish work and head to Santa Cruz where I will meet up with Sayre (who was working at the Red), Lindsay (Sayre's girlfriend [for those that don't know]), and Joe for drinks and celebration... after all, we were on our way to Coachella the next day for two days of fun in the sun and more bands than you can shake a stick at. We were to stay at Joe's parent's place about 5 minutes from the venue and couldn't be more excited about it (no camping!!!). Their place is also on a golf course with their backyard overlooking the 11th green and all in all a pretty goddamn beautiful house, as we were to find out later. After several beers at Red we retired back to Joe and Sayre's place where I checked my messages on this fucking website. That is where we were blessed with the greatest news ever: Gnarls Barkley (aka Cee-lo and Dangermouse) were to play their first EVER show at a secret gig at the Roxy in West Hollywood the following night. Free show, first 300 people in free, no one else... needless to say, we were excited.
Friday, April 28th, 2006:
The four of us take off around 9:30, and after a stop for coffee, begin the deliberation about whether we drive straight to Joe's folks crib or head to L.A... we decided the chance to see Gnarls Barkley's first gig was too epic to pass up so to the City of Angels we went. Upon arival (only 5 1/2 hours from S.C.!!!!!!) we got the the venue and saw only about 10 people lined up. We grabbed a bite to eat and went back to get in line. Sayre handed out some of the new mixtapes (The Late Pass - cop it) while we waited and we took in what Los Angeles had to offer... what that was was our first celebrity spotting of the weekend (1/2 hour into our visit). Jeremy Piven of ENTOURAGE ("Ari") walked into the Wells Fargo across the street (this is on Sunset Blvd) to cheers of "Let's hug it out, bitch" and he waved to the crowd. Cee-lo came out about an hour later to check out the line (about 150 people at this point) and snap a few photos with fans. Our buddy Taurek showed up at the last minute and we were treated to, without a doubt, one of the best live shows any of us had ever seen... literally, one of the best... check this out, it's from that performance (Sayre is wearing the white Kangol in front of the camera and I'm to his right in the Dodger hat): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ene2q5pm8H4&search=gnarls roxy

We leave the show and go nextdoor to the Rainbow Room to watch the end of the first half of the Lakers playoff game and Taurek tells us this is were Motley Crue hangs out all the time... we pay him no mind and after a while leave... on our way out we run into Tommy Lee getting into his car. We yell, he doesn't respond and we go on our way. We then run into Boots from The Coup on the street. Sayre and Joe talk to him for a minute and give him the mixtape and we head off to Coachella... Final Tally: 5 hours in L.A., three celebs spotted, one talked to, and the greatest show ever... not bad... and the Lakers won.
Saturday, April 29th, 2006:
We go to Coachella, Sayre is threatened with being arrested if he passes out mixtapes, it's fucking HOT, we see Platinum Pied Pipers (good show), Lady Sovereign (amazing), Common, Kanye West, and Damien Marley... I drink a lot, see the girl who plays Maeby on Arrested Development (she's a cutie) and go home.
Sunday, April 30th, 2006 (MY BIRTHDAY):
And Kobe knew it too!! We all go to the Beer Hunter (same logo as the movie, only a mug of beer instead of the deer's head) and drink and watch the Laker's play... everyone but me leave's for the festival but I stay back to watch my beloved Los Angeles Lakers beat the Phoenix Suns to go up 3-1 in the series on TWO (!!!!!) Kobe buzzer beaters (on to send it to overtime, one to win the game) and they were both on Steve Nash fuck-ups... who's MVP now bitch?!?!?! Anyhoo, needless to say I'm feeling great. I hitchhike to the festival and get there 1/2 an hour before Gnarls Barkley goes on... we watch them from the front row and it was, yet again, unbeliveable: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GQfDZrT05E&search=gnarls
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SINPWycFhw&search=gnarls
We decided the day couldn't get much better so we caught 20 minutes of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's set and bounced... We BBQ'ed and watched the Soprano's... great Birthday!!!!
Monday, May 1st, 2006:

Thanks so much for the comment on my sonic and tails set! I'm sorry this is SUCH a late reply, I've had a hectic month! And I'm kind of lazy too. But it was very much appreciated, anyhow. Take care xox
