He also left quite a trail of bad vibes in his wake from his previous incarnation, plus it was a way of not wasting any more energy running from / rebelling against the name his father - with whom he had tremendous issues at the time - gave him. It was a way to be his own man in every way. It's now been about a dozen years since he did it and you know what?
