I like those pictures... very cool. I'll give you a good and bad concert experience, both from back in 1999!!
The Bad: I used to book bands in college for the University of Toledo and also for a lot of the larger venues in the city for about 3 years. I booked Smashmouth (not my choice!!!) at the University Ballroom (capacity 850) . The singer, Greg Camp, was an asshole and was so fat and out of shape; he would try dancing and then run out of breath and couldn't sing. He was nearly booed off stage. To top that off, we only sold 500 tickets.
The Good: I booked Everclear, Stabbing Westward, and Ash at Savage Hall (capacity 4500). All the bands were cool as hell... they rocked on stage... the concert sold out... and we had an AMAZING after hours party!
I haven't had many bad concert experiences. Most have been cool. I've seen Metallica a few times and they were always great!
I've collected books since I was twelve and I lived in London for a little while going to a history of the book program. When I was there in November, I bought this rare Whyndham Lewis art book / play "Enemy of the Stars," and the best book I found there was a first edition of Ford Madox Ford's The Good Soldier, which was only about 3 pounds, but worth hundreds. If you haven' read that, it is a great but very sad book.
So, what part would you want in the South Park Movie Musical that you quixotically wish for? I am thinking the French Kid (Philip?) -- you know, "God is a beetch."
hello !!! si no one n'avais pas report le concert du 5 mars Strasbourg, j'aurais t au 1er rang avec mes frangins du groupe !!! ...... mais il y en aura d'autres !!! lol
Anthony.
Dont worry I have a designated freezer for my specimens!
Pretty picture of you and congratulations on being nominated for president!
I love going to my boyfriends bands gigs cause he looks so cool when he's singing on stage!
Another amazing gig I went to was Dissection cause their music is amazing and Jon (founding member) lent down and kissed my cheek at the end! Opeth are amazing live too and the last Slayer gig ruled, ah too many good shows. I see live music all the time!
You use dude, I use bitch to my work collegues. I must cut down on the swearing at work....
You hair looks "A" in that picture. Really, really delicate.
I kinda missed that about the music: I suppose it is one thing to hang your art out there for the world to see; but to let them re-interpret it would be very satisfying and very scary at the same time. Plus, like you say, the chances are better of making it. Respect.
i got my nose broke for the first time in the mosh pitt during static x. had my head split by some preppy basterd who doesnt know how to mosh at an h20, rx bandits, and new found glory concert. seen korn twice got so close to the stage i could see right in feildys eyes man good times id continue but id feel the entie page.
heya..
Some of my collection: Jackson USA Dinky, Charvel Journeyman, 3 Strats, 2 Ovation (acoustics), Alvarez, Peavey Nitro and others (some cheapo ones too). I also have a Ritchie Blackmoor (Deep Purple) signature strat that he signed. It has a factory-scalloped neck.
When I went to see Yo La Tengo during there 3rd encore they asked for a request for a last song .. and then played a cover of a Velvet Underground song I yelled out.
Although Antony & the Johnsons and Diamanda Galas were probably the most mind-blowing concerts I've ever been to. Though the Dirtbombs comes close.
Ok, sometime i'll tell you the whole FF story... i was interviewing Machine Head and FF for a fanzine a friend was trying to get started... MH played brixton one night, and FF Camden underworld the next night... i ended up seeing FF at the MH gig, going backstage with them, getting wasted with them and MH's support - Meshuggah and Mary Beats Jane - and then the next night, me and my mate met up with Dino and Burt - we ended up appearing in the video Raw Power/Noisy Mothers was filming for ITV... After interviewing Burt (he was soooooo high on speed, and gave us the INTERNATIONAL exclusive about his appearance on the first G//z/r album...) the entire band drew and signed a design in gold paint pen on the back of my leather jacket...
THEN
we were hanging around and they left us in charge of the tee-shirt stand!
THEN
when the gig started, i ended up onstage AND BURT PASSED ME THE MIKE TO SING ON DEMANUFACTURE
Well, i guess i gone told you now!
LOL i'm the kind of guy who ALWAYS tries to 'bother' the band at gigs (Had dinner with Neurosis once. Sold drugs to Sleeper. Adam from Machine Head still owes me two fags. etc etc...) but that day was good even by my standards!!
Ahem. Sorry about waffling on...
PS Some say it's controversial, but i think calling a girl 'Dudette' is a pretty high fucking compliment.
I've settled on my cooking now, but I'll use that one next week for my mum I think. I like cooking with chicken, and do a lot; t can really soak up any flavour magnificantly.
Although I have yet to seuce peope through cooking. Although baking is close. Perhaps I should just take my cakes out with me instead of using lines...
I must use the gym much more than I currently am. Although the scary gym music always puts me off.
