Wow,
Only two more days. I'm super excited. Walk Without Rhythm goes up on Sunday at 1:00pm. A couple of friends and I might have a release party tonight at the Octoberfest!

I love Octoberfest. I love the little bottles of sweet liquor that you bang on the table then scratch off the bottom. And I love German beer and food. The men and the language don't hurt one bit. Ever want to get me hot, whisper some German in my ear and I'm there. From 0 to Fuck me in 20 seconds flat! wink

I am smiling, life is good, and I'm really excited about my set. I have a lot to look forward to in the next couple of months.

So, as you know, I've been reading The Moral Animal, and honestly, at first I couldn't get into it, but now it's definitely captured my interest. It brings up a lot of points that I would have never considered, but then again I never really realized how much there was to evolutionary physiology before.
So the question I pose to you is this:

It is known that every aspect of our individuality in genetics are all products of evolution. What worked to get your parents to reproduce may, if not already, work for you to reproduce, thus traits are successful, thus they are passed on to offspring. Basic rules of evolution, we have all covered them right? Right.
Now, as with all aspects of life, that carries into sex, which is the fundamental aspect of reproduction. (In case you didn't know) This all carries into things as common as infidelity, jealousy, and the drama that is "love"
It's suggested that women are more concerned when their mate is emotionally unfaithful. Meaning, when her mate sees the possibility of a long term commitment with another female it is more detrimental to her emotional well being than if he were to just hit it and quit it. The Moral Animal goes into explaining that this is because this new found interest that the man has discovered will lead to a spread of resources that is more divided than before when she was his only emotional interest.
The book goes onto say that men are more concerned with a physically unfaithful mate, because that could mean that any offspring she has would not be guaranteed to be his and his alone, thus his genes are not completely ensured into the next generation.
There's really no polite way to put this, basically, men see certain women as only potential carriers for their genes, unfit with which to raise children with, but fit enough to potentially carry his genes into the next generation. Weather she does or doesn't, she is still a potential investment that requires little maintenance after the encounter. Other women are seen as partners that they could raise children with and therefore not just offer genetic information for the offspring to carry but also intellectual, moral and ethical information as well.
Keep in mind that all of this happens on an instintual level, on the same level as hunger, and sleep. It is what drives you, as a human, not as an individual. I constantly remind myself that just because something is natural, that does not necessarily make it good or endearing. I find it all very interesting, especially considering the reading material I have read earlier this year. I in a way, agree with a lot of what is being said. Evolution makes sense, and this makes sense with evolution. Ultimately on our most primal level, reproduction is out greatest priority, second only to survival.

I like you thinking on that question, I think you're right too, reproduction is the most basic animal instinct other than survival. I think that we'll probably always have a struggle trying to fight that nature. Very astute observation though, I like your thinking.

I'm thinking along the same lines.

Assuring the continuance of ones genetic material is the fundamental purpose of every living thing. We are all programed to be links in the chain of life. Societies, cultures, racial groups, etc. work in a similar fashion to assure the continuance of their groups genes as a whole. This is what racism is about. I think this is the underlying reason for our current wars and potential future war with Iran. Not only would we like to control the resources of the middle east but we would like to see out genetic material have the greater chance of survival, Of course Muslim nations feel the same way. They don't hate our freedoms, they hate our genes. They fear we will overpower them and stop or at least reduce the continuance of their genetic material. In a world short of resources, genocide is biology's answer filtered through the institutions of social organization..

At least that's what I think.
