I know. I just wish I was rich and powerful, so I could do more. I bought and renovated my house recently. I'm tapped.
But I want to start a collection to make sure that the affected kids have presents to open for the holidays. I should be able to get some $$ together before then.
yeah some hectic shit going on, you would think that a government that can run two major theatres of military operations at once would be able to mobilise adequate disaster relief for an expected natural disaster in it's own country.
I'm angry. I can't believe it took four freakin' days to get the national guard down there. Everyone knew that Katrina was going to land somewhere. They should have known which guard units would land right after the storm. Unbelievable.
It is amazing to witness our nation's incompetency with this. I am sad and angry that there are people that aren't moved to help, or who figured all this would sort itself out on its own. I hope that the aid that is finally being sent will be enough to get folks by until more can be done. I can't imagine losing my home, my job, and all contact with friends and loved ones overnight. How hopeless I would feel. I pray that these people get what they need to be able to start over.
I agree that resources are stretched. However, the first and second marine expeditionary forces [which are being sent to New Orleans today - they're not guard units, I know] were stateside. It would seem to me that part of the chimp's job description would include figuring out who out of the guard and active duty military exactly is availble to respond [if needed] and how to get them where they need to be oh, about edit one week ago Thursday - when they had a pretty good idea that a category 4 or 5 hurricane was going to hit the gulf coast somewhere between Florida and Texas. Please understand, I'm not blaming the military [or the guard]. The lack of leadership is astounding. There is only one place to point that finger.
