It is now official. I have decided genetics is crap. You see, I come from a long and proud tradition of fat people. My father is fat, and he along with all my fat aunts and uncles were raised by my two fat grandparents, who, having lived through the great depression were adamant about finishing all meals, a habit instilled deep in them by their own fat parents.
Two years ago next month and 100 pounds ago as of today, I decided not to be fat anymore. No drugs. No surgery. Just work and discipline. I have forged my body in fires of pain and galvanized my mind in the crucible of will.
Am I bragging? No. I'm celebrating! It really doesn't matter to anybody but me, but this minor, yet bluntly observable side effect of my own metamorphosis is like a microcosm of human potential.
We are. I am so very excited about where we've been and where we're going. There is truly nothing we cannot overcome.
We evolve at the point of crises. Irrigation was born of drought and famine. Plumbing and sanitation from overcrowding and plague. Smallpox gave us vaccination, and (for good or ill) we harnessed the power of the atom in the throws of the most nightmarish war our society had ever seen.
Cataclysm is the catalyst of divinity, and chaos is the birthing pains of new order. Every time you see a butterfly, it means a caterpillar died.
Change is often frightening, and painful, but necessary. Embrace the pain for what it is. Accept it, use it. Learn from it as it passes through you, and when time washes it away you will not have to repeat it.
God is an infinite and boundless sea. You are single drop of rain. But you're both made of water.
