Last night we went to see Pearl Jam. We had really shitty seats, in behind the stage, for which we had to pay full price frown and we were surrounded by obnoxious teenagers. the two directly in fron of us jumped to their feet the second that Pearl Jam came on stage and did not sit down again until the concert was done... which wouldnt have been so bad if the fellow hadn't been like 6'3" Those standing in front, of course caused a chain reaction and all of us had to stand so that we could, for the most part, watch the back of Eddie Vedder's head.
The band were really good about making sure those of us in the back were included in the show... and the sound was good, although too loud (see too old to rock...) The performance itself was damn impressive and I would not hesitate to go see them again, provided that I brought a good set of earplugs and managed to get good seats. They played the major hits, and then some not so major ones, all of it was good. Vedder did something very classy, I thought, he came out and played an acoustic number at the beginning of the show, did a beatles tune. then he personally introduced the opening act - Winters Sleep from Halifax... very enjoyable band as well, although sound very much like a young Pearl Jam =) easy to see whyt hey picked them up for the shows here.
By far the best rock moment in the entire show was Alive. They played it out like an anthem and you could tell they were just having a blast with it.
However, as good as the show was, my inability to deal with crowds, the obnoxiousness of the youngsters around us and the volume of the show definitely put a crimp into my wanting to go to another concert. I sort of listed to Jill who is left on the must see chart, Foo Fighters, Bad Religion, Bowie, Pink Floyd, and I would probably have to add Tool to the list as well. But if at all possible I want to avoid the stadium scene. Too much money, for an uncomfortable time. I came very close to panic attacks a couple of times throughout the show, which was, to say the least, disconcerting. (something that a concert shouldn't be is disconcerting smile )

I guess it is in part due to getting older, I guess in part due to the chemical changes in my brain that we have not found the right sure for yet, and I guess it has to do with being really, really poor. The tickets for the show were bought kinda by accident... well not really but I truly believed the credit card was going to be declined when I put the internet purchase through... but for whatever reason it pushed it through. It was nice to go and be able to share the experience with Jill, and it was nice to hear some of the more influential songs in my musical history, but it would have been just as nice to curl up on the couch with a couple of DVD's and have a cupboard full of groceries too.
