uptight:
Your Grandpa helped save my country so he's definately a hero in my book!

I still don't believe in God. I mean it doesn't make sense. Firstly, why would God create us? Are we his ant farm?

Christians tell us it is so that we can discover our own faith, love God, die and go to heaven. So why not place us directly in heaven? So that God can see who has enough faith believe in him without proof (the rest get sent to hell).

This desire to create creatures with free will - reward the gooduns and torture the baduns seems awfully petty behaviour for an omnipresent superbeing. This anger is just too "fallible" for a God. This desire to be worshipped is too "insecure" for the ultimate devine entity.

It strikes me that Moses created God as the "Ultimate Dad" to scare the shit out of people who were rebelling in the desert.

I also make up crap to make my children behave!

Moses made a Dad for grownups. When you are young Dad will sort out all your problems if you ask him nicely and obey. Superdad will be cross and smite you if you are naughty and worship golden calfs.

When you get older you lose the protection, comfort and control that a father gives you. Living in the real world is scary because we can't understand it. God as an Uberdad fills a hole in people's lives, but it isn't real. It's a convenient control mechanism for people who want money and / or power. It relies on fear, superstition and a desire for paternal comfort.

Also, the fact that repentance absolves sin seems to relieve people of responsibility for their actions. This seems irresponsible.

Just my opinion you understand, but I have yet to find anything in monothesism that makes any kind of sense at all.
