samling:
you've never heard of patti smith? you march yourself right over to SocietysPliers's journal and ask for recommendations. he'll turn you on to some of her best.

i'm sorry about your kitty, dan- but you did the right thing.

and: i named my computer precious (and the laptop is precious jr.). tell me what the reference is. bonus points if you get it right the first time.
samling:
ding ding ding!! it is INDEED an LOTR reference!

i'm a geek, dan. a geek of many veins.

patti is punk, yeah...but she's also in the same area as early bruce springsteen. you know she did a song called "because the night" that her and the boss wrote. listen to "born to run", and you'll understand why i draw this parallel.
_brody_:
i can't edit my reply, but i feel like an asshole for the snuggle kitty to death comment.... because I didn't read the blog before I posted...

and apparently my comment deleted itself... so this isnt even needed!!!!

ill repost the whole "brody smears poo everywhere when baby" story later.

jaebin:
So sorry man you didn't have Scourge long. My heartfelt manly hug goes out to you
societyspliers:
I'm so sorry about Scourge (Great name, BTW). You know, she died on Janis' birthday.frown

I recently acquired one of Patti Smith's Christmas shows from 2007 at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. I'll see if I can arrange to PM active links so you download it or else I can maybe snailmail the CDs.

I'm PMing them now. I also forwarded a Christmas greeting from her from a couple weeks ago (yeah, she sends stuff out late, but she was touring, so we can forgive her.smile)

My comp is working really slowly now as I am downloading a Steely Dan show from '74 as well as cruising SG, plus I seem to have over 187 entire days worth of music on my hard drive.

That having been said, I'm trying to make those download urls actual links for your ease in downloading. I'm not sure how long they'll be active, so hurry.
societyspliers:
Oh, and here's the best resource I know for DVDs and such wherein you learn stuff from the artists themselves, or if they're no longer, from their proteges. This is where I learned a lot of Rev Gary Davis, Jorma Kaukonen, Robert Johnson and Taj Mahal.

I'd recommend getting the Rev. Gary Davis DVD set. It has footage of the Master himself picking and the accompanying tabs coincide with the instructional DVDs to demonstrate ho he did all those amazing things barely moving his fingers. His ragtime blues style was mostly revolving around his left hand being in a tight position on he fretboard and then lifting/moving fingers slightly while maintaining the same position and then fingerpicking with his right hand. The set makes it doable.

Enjoy!

At this point, I dont care if I am still on them, I just want to feel better, thats all I care about right now.

I am really sorry about your cat, I have been there many times, and its never easy, you made the right decision. I know its hard right now, but you will find another cat to share your life with eventually.

...and good luck on the date!
lolablu:
I'm so sorry about Scourge.
magpie:
thank you sir. good luck on your new job as well. And I am really sorry to hear about your kitty frown best wishes.
dholokov:
When I wanted to be a singer songwriter, I had a song called "Tough like Patti Smith". Horses is indeed a seminal album.

That is excellent about the assistant job with the tuition waiver. I got to be a research assistant for some profs during school, but the value was far less than a tuition waiver!!!

That is terrible about your cat. I'm sure it was a wonderful pet, but it did have a very large head.

And you should never reveal your name in a comment like that!! They've probably already stolen your identity and used it to purchase teenage sex slaves in Cambodia!!
societyspliers:
Hey! Did you dowload that Patti Smith show from December?

If not, I'm not sure how long the links'll stay active. Due to bandwidth issues, they usually automatically go inactive after a week or two.

If you don't/didn't get it, & you try REAL HARD & manage to summon enough energy to,well, click a few buttons, hopefully the links'll still be active. It'll be the best music you've acquired this year yet. Seriously. It's unbelievable and the sound quality is awesome. In fact, it's the best sounding Patti Smith bootleg I own.

Other than one where she plays Franklin's Tower & Black Peter (two Grateful Dead songs) with Robert Hunter (Jerry Garcia's lyricist) sitting in on acoustic guitar, harmonica & shared vocals. But I only have 4 songs from that show. (Aside from her punk & beatnik influences, Patti was a HUGE Dead fan - in fact, on the December show her lead player demonstrates his affinity toward Garcia to the point it almost seems he's conjuring Jerry's Spirit through his guitar.)

Incidentally, Garcia was a fan of punk, himself.

Anyway, as your attorney, I advise you to download the Patti Smith show IMMEDIATELY!

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

I don't see you downloading!!!!

Do it!

I said "DO IT!!!"

NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

biggrin

Im oretty whiny too when im sick.

Sorry about the cat dude. I absolutely love my cat to death, even though he's quite the stupid cat.
The kitten however...is really starting to piss me off. Haha.
She doesn't realize that my legs...are attached to me...and that using them as leverage to climb me with her CLAWS...causes me pain.
