If you like liqueurs, see if you can try Xtabentun (pronounced: shta-ben-toon) while you're down there. It's made with anise and honey. Good after-dinner aperitif.

Enjoy the Caribbean! smile

Have fun and eat the worm!! ARRR!!!

I highly recommend leaving the Mexican Vegas and heading 40 miles south to Playa Del Carmen a soon as you get tired of seeing drunk Americans in Hard Rock Cafe t-shirts & sombreros.

The so-called Mayan Riviera Playa is full of Europeans, topless beaches and great restaurants. Yeah there are some Americans for sure, but Playa has a much less tourist feel and seem more like the Mediterranean and less like Vegas. The surf is mellower because the island of Cozumel breaks up the waves. Often, in Cancun the surf it way too strong (at least in the winter.) If you like diving or snorkeling - take a short trip over to Cozumel its the 2nd-largest barrier coral reef in the world & Jacques Cousteau called it the best diving in the world, I concur. If you have time dive or swim in a cenote - a natural pool of clear water .

The little towns between Cancun & Tulum are more like Real Mexico. Some have no, NO tourists at all and are quite cool.

If you can go even further, the Mayan ruins overlooking the beach at Tulum are breathtaking and muy interesante.
