We saw the commercials over and over all weekend thinking it looked yummy. Then we remembered kfc sucks and popeye's is awesome. So we did that instead.
@chefbeth I was drawn in too by the commercials unfortunately the Popeye's across the street from KFC is torn down and being rebuilt. It tastes like stale dry chili powder dipped in whirl.
We had a browns here when I was a kid @xhippykid and again a couple years ago but it was run poorly and went under. If I lived in Chicago I would only eat at Harold's chicken shack. It way better than everywhere else.
Popeye's is also my favorite but we have a regional chain in Arkansas called "Slim Chickens" which is superb. I actually think there's one in Peoria, not sure how far of a drive that is for y'all.
@cassius_graye Peoria is about 45 minutes from us and we do occasionally go there to eat. They have a few BBQ spots and all the BBQ in our town are crap. I will have to check out slim chickens.
Popeye's is king of the chains, but in Milwaukee proper there are quite a few 'mom n pop' places that are way better - well worth the drive from the 'burbs so I usually go that route. Once every few years I'll get roped into some KFC and I wonder why I used to like it so much as a kid. I had the honor of having fried chicken at Willie Mae's in New Orleans so I've been spoiled ... and the red beans and rice and catfish - now I'm hungry!
I love KFC! Love it. I could eat the potatoes and gravy by the bucket! The biscuits are great (F U KFC for changing the butter though!) That being said, Popeye's is also fantastic! Unfortunately the only Popeye's in Maine is on the northbound lane on interstate 95 at Kennebunkport. Almost 6 hours away. The chicken might be slightly better, the mashed aren't as good, and the biscuits are equally good, but in a different way. Popeye's butter is better.
