Yeah, what's with the cold weather?? Though I know it's not the ideal place to be keeping them, I totally have chicken-envy. I want chickens sooo bad!
A long time ago we bought a rug from a guy who swore we could use nail polish remover on it if we ever had need to... I don't know what your carpet is made of, but you could google it or try a spot-test to see if nail polish remover would work without harming the carpet.

Chickens don't take a lot of room at all. Mine are kind of spoiled though... my 3 almost grown ones roam around the yard and the babies are either in the house or garage until they are bigger. If you get chickens, Silkies are the best! They are on the small side and don't make much noise, even the roosters, and they are friendly.
I will have to spot test the carpet and see what happens. My little one dumped a half a bottle of bright orange polish on my bedroom floor.... good times
