That's excellent about the kidney stuff. Hope the no pain situation is here to stay! As for documentaries, The Cove is worth a watch - it's grim (dolphin slaughter in Japan), but a real eye opener. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cove_(film) And congratulations for the new family member :)

There's a lot of pagan tradition in Christmas if that helps any.  I don't know if this counts, but Waltz with Bashir is probably my favorite movie that is non-fiction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waltz_with_Bashir

Good to hear you are not in pain any more. There's a cool documentary on the rise of awesome and bad VHS tapes called Rewind This. It might just be cooler to me since my first job was at a little mom and pop video store...but still. Also the documentary A band called Death is awesome if you are into that sort of music.

good to hear on the pain...!  don't know what t'say on the holiday stuff, as I haven't celebrated in decades :(

Congrats on feeling pain free.  I'm with you on the religious aspect of Christmas.  I tend to focus on the spirit of goodwill and showing warmth/compassion to others rather than the biblical reasons for doing so.  One tradition for me is reading A Christmas Carol the week before.  I buy a silly ornament for my daughter each year to start her "collection".  And I host a Boxing Day game of Cornhole (bag toss kind of like horseshoes) for my neighbors - complete with Hot Toddies and Goldschlager-spiked hot chocolate.
