So I'm going to try and stick out my six months in security at my job.
I have roughly four and a half months left to go.
In that time I'm going to try and accomplish a few things so that I'm better prepared for another position/job.
First I'd like to get some computer/network certifications. I'd like to get a Microsoft Server cert (do they still call it MSCE?) I'd also like to get a general network administrator cert of some sort. Then thirdly I'd like to get one of those new(ish) Linux certs (why not, I've got 19 years of experience with Linux).
Once I've got those certifications out of the way I might go back to my old university and take one class at a time to finish my second bachelor's degree in computer science. I think was approximately 80% complete when I left.
Then once I've obtained those certs and my six months are up I might try applying to the IT department at my work since it pays $19-21 an hour (hell of a lot better than the $11.50 I get now!)
Oh, and from the sound of things, there is less bullshit once you get away from the security department...
