OK so here it is....
My 14 year old step-son, Zack, has knocked up his girlfriend.
Not the English expression from Victorian times meaning you "knocked up" someone out of bed.
Nope.
Preggers.
She turns 15 today.
19 weeks pregnant, by the bye. Roughly. The ultrasound is to be done 1 May and will confirm the date. So (for now) she's due right around his 15th B-day. Fuck. So now everything is out the window. All our future plans. All his future plans (as if...) and all hers (also as if...).
I could go on and on about Zack's father's lack of attention in preventing this from happening and being his usual unhelpful dickness at a time when his son needs him most, how Zack lied about (a) being sexually active with her and (b) when he finally admitted to it (a month ago - do the math) that they were using condoms or how the kids have cocked up their lives and ours. But unfortunately this won't help anything.
So now Katrina and I get to figure out the impact on us and the boy. The first thing, we're off to Surrey tomorrow (where he lives) to meet with him, his GF and her parents. It sounds like they plan to keep the baby, which I hope is true. If not Katrina and I are not ones to allow this child, her flesh and blood, to be adopted by strangers. I'm 40 and Katrina's 39. Zack's her youngest, and we were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, as far as "kids at home parents." Assuming they do keep the baby, then Katrina wants to set up an account for the GF so that we can contribute to the child's upbringing. We hope to get Zack's dad involved but aren't holding our breaths on this one.
So that's the state of my world tonight.
