I have been studying more about portrait photography lately. Learning about posing your subject, studying the light and field of view.
There are certain rules. Don't cut off hands and feet. Letting limps leave and reenter the frame. Etc. I then browse through photo sets on here and chuckle at the many rule infractions.
The great thing about photography is it is always open to interpretation. As long as the model is posed is a beautiful and flattering way, rules don't all have to be applied.
I am my own worst critic. I work back thru my shots and see everything I dislike about every one. Wishing I had shot from a different angle, adjusted my settings differently, gave the model more direction, etc. I need to not be so critical. Feedback helps, but I'm still trying to find my 'style'.
One can only improve by continuing to go out and shot and learn.
