So, with the exception of the occasional side-track of new-to-me music, I’ve been listening to every song I own—alphabetically by artist/band name, then chronologically by album. They’ve all been imported to my iTunes library, so it’s super easy... I’m currently on Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers’ Moanin’, but I am sooo looking forward to Nine Inch Nails’ The Downward Spiral! I don’t listen to music all the time anymore—I’ve grown to love silence—but I do listen to the radio at work and make my own original music when at home, so, it might take a while. It’ll be worth it, though. There’s some serious magic in this for me. Like earlier today, I’m listening to Aretha Franklin’s Greatest Hits, and some of her deep cuts bring to mind Frank Sinatra and Roberto Carlos, and I start getting all excited about how those driving snares somehow sound more aggressive than a lot of modern rock and hip hop beats... I have the soul of a drummer... I need to get out of this tiny apartment and into a place with enough space for a full-on rock band so I can make some serious noise.
