oracle:
Jeepers Creepers and Jeepers Creepers 2. Granted they are the stupid horror movies but I believe that guy in it is the new Freddy. He is very cool in a funny sort of way biggrin
oracle:
oh ya like I told Kasara I am coming into town next weekend to watch the olympic qualifers, you gonna be around?
wolfangel:
the station agent - a simple tale of loss and redemption through friendship, leaves you wanting to know more...

dirty pretty things - a grim tale, but it is cool that the characters resolve their dilemma through ingenuity, rather than accept the hopelessness of their situation...

haha. great comment sweetie! Thank You kiss You are now a member of the Monkey Gang! kiss ooo aaa

OOh, see The City of Lost Children. The movie is in French but if you don't know it there are always subtitles. It is about a man who cannot feel so he kidnaps children to try to learn to feel and cry again. Ok, it sounds demented but it is done in a fairy tail manner. It is dark but beautiful. Visualy very appealing and *sigh* I love this movie. kiss love kiss
faelynia:
i agree with lunna, although, the DVD has french and english audio tracks... you HAVE to see it!

btw, nice flower wink

joblue:
When Night is Falling (several years back) because it is directed by Patricia Rozema and it is the most visually poetic love story I've ever seen.
ronin_46:
while I could toil away on a gigantic list of very amazing movies that Ithink everyone should see I think that right now the couple that I am most fascinated with are as follows:

City of God (Ciudad de Dios) a wonderful Brazillian film of growing up and becoming a man and making beautiful photographs out of a painful world

21 Grams. A heartbreaking film about three lives intersecting

Love Liza. Phillip Seymore Hoffman's "Leaving Las Vegas"

Secretary. two words . . . Maggie Gyllenhal
seldon:
secretary is good times, dirty pretty things was cool, but the best movie I've seen this year was probably American Splendor. Filmaking at it's finest. At once insightful and self-deprecating. Bubba Ho-Tep rocks the house too. Bruce Cambell as Elvis. nuff said. Maybe I will take the gf to see Big Fish tomorrow. roomate might tag along...
illbillzillbub:
i just saw "Lost in Translation".....because it is kind of melancholic and it doesnt yell at you and its er....yeah go see it.....and "Secretary" is good too.
kasara:
Thanks sweetie... I'm trying not to bum myself out about it. I just can't believe he'd treat any woman like that. It's sad.
rowan_would:
The Pillow Book ..

because it contains all essential elements: stunning photography, body calligraphy, and one very naked Ewan McGregorsmile

oh btw.....hi, i'm rowan
gigi:
I like the word diaphonous too... smile If you haven't already, see In America. It's beautiful and intimate with excellent acting and a touching story...

I agree with those who mentioned City of God and Secretary as well!
lunna:

zork:
"Lost in Translation" has already been mentioned, so...

"Mediterraneo". It's a few years old now (1992), but is a quirky classic. From the box:

"During World War II, eight Italian soldiers are sent to guard a small Greek island in the middle of the Mediterranean, but they quickly realize that there is nothing to guard! Instead, they start enjoying life on this beautiful island and some are able to realize dreams they have never told anyone about."

It's in Italian and Greek, with subtitles. The humour is a little crude in places (I thought it was hilarious... my conservative dad was a bit offended), but all good-natured. The description above leaves out a few key ideas: just after they're dropped on the island, the ship that dropped them is sunk; shortly after that their radio is broken; they're left isolated from the war, and from the outside world generally. They are supposedly on guard, but quickly become absorbed into the life of the local village. Anyway, it's good-natured, funny, a little off-beat, and insightful.

One funny thing: since I can't understand either Italian or Greek, and the subtitles are all in English, it sometimes confused me that the characters couldn't understand each other... it was all Greek to me!
_bossanova_:
Well, LaDolceVita said it all for me! Don't you just love her? Anyways, diaphanous is a delicious word and should be used more often than it is these days.

My period never feels like tendrils snaking through my abdomen; more like knives penetrating my organs! Anyways, feel better and keep being your sweet, badass self, dearie!smile
