Today rocked, but yesterday sucked, so right now the new year is 50/50 for me.

And I just got your card today too... look at that synchronized delivery!!

Hope the reas of your year goes MUCH better. Thanks for the new year wishes sweets! kiss
starisea:
Oh poor sylvan! I don't like to think of you as being sad. frown

Stay warm and cuddle a kitty, if possible.

I hope that the year improves quickly and rewards your kind heart with all the wonderous magic that you deserve.

love *hugs* kiss

seldon:
It will get better. I don't think I've ever had a new year start off well. Something about the let down from the holidays puts everyone in a bitchy mood and makes them all crazy. Things will even out. Just relax baby!
lunna:
Hi cutie, I think it was the ARRR!!! that made me feel better.hehe that was to cute of you. love & kiss
reverendash:
Don't be sad. *hug*
Don't believe that two days will make a whole year go bad. There's still 363 more to make it better. You know? smile

Feel better. smile

no its good to get the bad days over with early in the year

Hope today is going better than the previous two...

You asked, "how does one end up in the computer science faculty while analyzing salmonid evolution?"

The general answer is that computational biology (the use of computational techniques to address problems in biology) is a fast-growing field. All kinds of computer scientists are jumping at the chance to explore a new problem domain, so are learning a bit of biology and using their computer science skills to solve problems that are of interest to biologists.

The personal answer is that I always wanted to be a biologist, but ended up finishing my undergrad degree in computer science instead, more or less accidentally. Now I'm trying to fix that, by doing a computer science phd in computational biology, so I can work in biology. Officially my research is not in studying salmonid evolution per se, but rather devising new computational approaches for studying evolution in general. But it's the fish I'm really interested in.

(That's not that scary, is it?)

I've had a similar start to the year... I choose to look at it as "things are gonna get better from here on in" smile
gigi:
Maybe you're just getting the bad over with early so the rest of the year can be great... smile

The Secret Life of Bees is pretty good so far... sad, but good. Hope you have a happy Sunday!
alisa:
hope you're feeling better. and of course the first few days of the year doesn't predetermine your whole year. it's what you make of it as you go along.

re: yay! finally out of limbo! great set girl!

I agree with LaDolceVita-you're just getting all the bad stuff out of the way now. That's the way to do it, too-get it all over with! You're a sweetie and deserve the best year!kiss

I jumped on to see how the SG world was doing... see how some of my favourite people were hanging in after the new year and I was shocked to see the usually jovial (and inquisitive) Sylvan niether happy nor asking her string of questions. sigh. this makes me sad. Never fear... it's just a couple of days. The sun rises... the sun sets... little more than that. Hope tomorrow seems a little brighter.
