OK, feeling more coherent than last time. Less caffeine and bed is looking a lot more imminent. Largely because I'm writing from it.
Looking for opinions. My band is about to start writing album number two (The new one is out in September and getting amazing reception so far!) and I've got two trilogies in mind. One's about dreams and the other is based in eschatology.
So, the dream one is going to be quite nice. It follows an individual who's gone through a rough time and they spend quite a bit of time in their own little world as a means of coping (a little bit like Suckerpunch, just with no explosions or lobotomies). The individual looks at their dream world as their perfect life. It isn't gregarious, but instead explores the comforts, securities and warmth that they've never really had. The individual eventually pulls themselves out of their daze and decides to make the dream a reality. Its a hard slog with a lot of opposition but they manage it. When the individual gets the dream, they're content. They know its a fight to keep the dream and that its not as flawless as they imagine, but it is still a distinctly better reality than the one they'd previously had. The only other qualm is that now the individual has no dream, are they going to be able to cope with the vicissitudes of life itself and the fact that now the dream is a reality, their control over it wanes.
The eschatology one is a lot more morbid. It looks at how we as a race have obsessed over the end of the world as far back as the 1st Century and it explores different religious beliefs and outlooks, omnicide (Nuclear arms, etc..) and the overall effect we as people have on the world. I'm writing this as something of a reaction because I fucking hate post-apocalyptic movies, and I've always been really antsy about how the whole thing is perceived. Also, that fucker Harold Camping really wound me up. Bastard.
On a happier note, I'm gearing up for a really exciting last few months of 2011! In August I'm off to Dublin, Ireland and Stockholm, Sweden with my band for press. We've got some showcase shows with a cool touring agency in the works for September/October time in the UK, then we're heading to Stockholm (And hopefully Trondheim in Norway if I can pull it off!) for another show in November. I'm topping the year off with a trip to NYC for an art exhibit and more press, and a trip to California to see one of my best friends at his new Uni. Very excited!
Right, so that's me done. Let me know what you think folks!
Cheers,
Tom x
