Sore, sore but happy

Wow, first blog post i nearly a year. There is so much catching up on but thought I'd just use this one to finally start writing a little bit again. I really do love writing just that I end up not doing it.

So what have I been doing for the last year? Well I did have a successful move to Australia and everything that comes with that. The biggest difference I would say is my fitness level though. By doing a litte bit harder, bit by bit I think I somehow ended up going from just doing hard stuff to way outside the norm into stupid hard category. Not sure how that actually happened, but it started with a 12h overnight training session that I joined on a whim. During the night I ended up carrying a bucket in each hand (20kg or 44lbs) for about 7km, ran around 40km not to mention countless push-ups, squats, lunges, situps etc. It was hard, I was struggling throughout the entire thing but by the end of it, this huge overwhelming feeling of pride instilled itself of what I had accomplished. I absolutely loved that feeling and it was worth all the pain. After that an entire world of extreme endurance challanges opened up.

The next thing I attempted was a 450m run, 25 push ups, 25 squats, 25 sit ups and 25 burpees and repeat that 40times. The goal was to compete against some guys in the US that had completed the Spartan Death Race and their best time was just under 7h. Me and a mate managed to complete it in 5h 40min (he did it in 5h 33min, oh well).

Last weekend I actually managed to make the cut to attempt to be a member of the Australian team to take on Worlds Toughest Mudder, a 24h enduro obstacle course. So we had a 25h challange... First up was a 5h trail run, with mud, creek crossing and some actual deep water. I managed to run 50km despite cramping up after 2.5h because of my body got jolted by the freezing water (is winter down under). Followed up with 2h of 8-count burpees, lost count of how many I did, but only stopped to throw up 3 times. Then it was time for wall and rock climbing for 2h. Followed by a 2h session of crossfit style exercises (push press, chin ups, pull ups, dips etc etc) and then outside in the cold again. Carrying 25kg sandbags for an hour. Then time for bear crawl and push up session over 2h as the sun was raising. To finish we had to go through a 2.5h trail run as a team followed by a 2.5h trail run individually. Managed to run a little bit over 30km taking my total run of the session to 50miles or 80km. All in all probably ran a bit over 100km for the first time over the 25h being one out of only 18 finishers. Again extreme pride although more pain than ever.

Just stopped limping after 4 days, time to see what's next. I can't wait!
