I've been thinking a lot about my most recent ex-girlfriend a lot lately, and so tonight I made a mix CD to honour my relationship with her.
1. Belle & Sebastian - "Seeing Other People"
* Not really an accurate song to begin with, as she dumped me, but I've always thought about being dumped whenever I've heard this song.
2. Cranes - "Come This Far"
* Reminds me of how good everything seemed while we were together.
3. Ride - "Dreams Burn Down"
* They do indeed. I gave up one of my dreams just to be with her, and then lost another when she suddenly and unceremoniously dumped me.
4. Sianspheric - "The Stars Above"
* This song has more or less reflected my state of mind since she dumped me six months ago. "I don't recognize my own face / too many scars / I don't love you anymore"
5. Trembling Blue Stars - "Nobody But You"
* A frequent knee-jerk reaction to the end of a relationship, a feeling that usually fades within a few weeks, but the whole "nobody but you" mentality is still with me, six months later.
6. Doves - "Here It Comes"
* She broke up with me via email, and this song popped into my head as I started reading it the first time.
7. Coldplay - "Green Eyes"
* This song, much to my dismay, probably represents my dependency on her.
8. Ladytron - "The Reason Why"
* I put this one in here because I still haven't figured out The Reason Why it ended.
9. Placebo - "Every You Every Me"
* A song to represent how all of my relationships go... in that they end up with me getting dumped and the girl going crazy at the end. "All alone in space and time / there's nothing here but what here's mine"
10. Catherine Wheel - "Ma Solituda"
* Another song about how I've been feeling since the breakup.
11. Yo La Tengo - "Our Way to Fall"
* In remembrance of how good the good parts were.
12. VAST - "Flames"
* This is me going overboard with the "not getting over it" bit.
13. A Perfect Circle - "3 Libras"
* I've never liked A Perfect Circle, but she liked this song, so I included it.
14. Sonic Youth - "The Diamond Sea"
* Another of "her" songs, which does nothing more than remind me of her.
15. The Smiths - "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me"
* The final track, which is sadly indicative of how most of my dreams have gone the past few months.
