I think that your theory is very interesting.... problem being, of course, that every photo on SG IS photoshopped, tattoos aren't that different of a concept than implants, and few girls over 21 have metabolisms that allow them to maintain the slender frame of our beloved suicidegirls. However, what I believe makes these girls real is their plentitude of charisma and personality. Olivia is by far my favorite girl on this site. And she is hot as fuck with a porn star body. But I am drawn to her because she is hot as fuck, hilarious, biting, and really fucking smart. I think THAT is what makes SG different. It allows the girls' personality to shine through, even in nude pictures of themselves. Which I think is pretty rocking.
In addition, I think the concept of 'the weight class' in reference to dating is remarkably oversimplified. I think that chemistry is far too important of a factor to boil things down to appearance, intelligence, etc... I consider myself to be very slightly above average. I'm pretty (but not beautiful), smart (but not brilliant), artistic (but not terribly talented), funny (but not hilarious)... I think you get the point, no? And I have dated men and women from all walks of life- fat, skinny, cut, pimply, funny, nerdy, smart, severely learning disabled, socially awkward, etc... I don't date them because of their hotness or intelligence. I date them because I like them. Because they acheive something that I find interesting in my life at the moment. And probably more than that, because some chemistry between us allows me to get goosebumps when they touch me.
Other than that, I honestly think you're right on the money... Especially concerning mentally undressing attractive people that you see on the street. The puritanical nature of our society has allowed sexuality and the human form to be a bit of a mystery to us. It's a shame, I think, that we have to explore nudity in places that are considered dirty or shameful.
That's my two cents anyway
It's nice to meet you!
Good rant! For an insight on scenesters and their role in society, check out Malcolm Gladwell's book The Tipping Point. It was hip to read about a year before a friend gave it to me last summer, so you and I are safely behind the curve. But it's a great read.
Anyway, Got your app to SG Motorcycles. Please post in MY journal a little bit about what you ride, where, how long you've been riding, etc. If you don't currently ride, say something about why you should be a member of SGMC anyway. Anything to let me know you're actually interested in SGMC will do. If you know a current SGMC member, have him/her leave me a note in my journal.
