Well - my hubby says he's ordered several pieces of electronic equip. from Amazon, and he received everything with no problems. Also - I'd agree about using paypal as it'll give you at least a little more assurance.
And....believe it or not, Target actually sells some decent dig. cams...and they're pretty cheap.

Amazon's pretty safe...they are a store front..unlike ebay that rely's on the honor system..users reporting bad users....I've never had an issue buying from Amazon nor any other site that is a store front....i stay away from ebay...paypal definately......www.BUY.com is one of my fav sites...I've dealt with them for years.. I buy all my computer accessories from there..they have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel Kit w/18-55mm Lens - 6.3 Megapixel - 8861A001 regular $1,500 for $889.00. I know u said 7 megpixel..but this Rebel is a pretty good camera...with a standard canon EF mount...hope this helps..try this site its great

im not real sure about amazon cause i haven't bought from there, but i know that atleast with ebay you can look at comments about the seller from people who have bought from them and hopefully get some idea of how they will treat your business with them. i dont know if you are wanting new or used....
how big of pictures are you wanting to get out of the camera? the most important thing is the lens...you really dont need more than like 5 megapixels or 6 unless you are going to use poster size pics.i just bought a new digital camera from best buy...i had just bought a different one from kodak that was 6.1 megapixel and the pics were not that great, really grainy. but we took it back and got a canon that is 5 megapixels but has a better lens and the pictures are amazingly vivid, and just gorgeous. you can still make a perfect 8 by 10 pic, but the better lens is what makes the pictures better. i dont know what your price range is here but another option is to get whatever camera and then you can actually rent really good lenses like for a weekend or something if you cant afford it...cause you could spend a couple thousand on a really good lens.
i dont know. just a thought. i have a friend who shoots pictures for professional sports teams(st. louis cardinals, rams, etc.....)and he has helped me with my camera, if you have any other specific questions i can ask him for you. let me know.

Holy crap! just saw that your set was released .... A WEEK AGO! I never saw it. There's so many sets that get released and I rarely have time to look at them I guess I've gotten to where I don't even look every day anymore. But no worries! All is well! I have seen it and I have loved it. A lot. Every picture I think to myself "god what a beautiful woman".

Ebay has buyers insurance for instances just like the one you experienced. I havn't ever used it though, I've had nothing but good experiences on ebay. Although I hate the whole bidding stuff and just use the buy it now. So I typicaly buy from ebay stores who are more reputable than individuals. I'm sure you prolly went that route though, probably to no avail which is why you're looking elsewhere.

That's gonna be kick ass when you get to shoot other SGs sets!

Also, 7MP is an awful lot of res. Very very few people have monitors big enough to see the whole pictures. But if you print them out I guess it'd come in handy. Personally, I'm still rather attached to plain ol film cameras. *hugs my mamaya SLR*

And I've been reading your journals long enough to know how lonely you feel in the CHI outpost of SG. I'm very happy for you! Now perhaps you can make it an integrl portion of the SG burlesque tour, and build a small base of local SG members, as well as girls!

I've had many many experiences with online buying. In fact, it's what I do for a living, online product promotion/sales, etc. I've been buying things online since 1997 or 98, and I've had only a few problems, here's some ideas:
1- this guy selling via Amazon, it's NOT amazon itself? OK, that's not always a bad thing -
a) you need to go to amazon & read/email customer service about the policy on damaged goods or theft via the amazon zshops program - the thing is, Amazon is supposed to be screaning all of those people for credibility, as well as amazon should probably be the responsible party in case of fraud or damaged goods. they will DEFINATELY have clear policy about it on the site, and you're the customer, you have the power - email / call into their customer service dept and get an answer, to be more comfy.
b) there should be a reivew of people who have delt with that vendor before - both on amazon & on ebay. this gives credit to the merchants abilities or short comings
c) there's always a means to contact the vendor via email, on ebay & amazon, etc...take advantage of this. to send an email is free. again, you're the customer, you have rights. get in touch with the merchant before the purchase to ask any ?s you have. Make sure they are legit, good to deal with, etc.
2-online world is same as virtual when it comes to shopping
a) you wouldnt trust a shady looking store, or something where the prices are just UNfathomable cheap. Same princaples apply in person or online.
b) ive had my credit card # stolen about 4 times offline, since I have no idea who the dude is at the pizza place when I call, or where those #s go after he writes them down. I have never knowingly had any false charges or theft of my CCard online, to date (Im knocking on wood as we speak).
3- cheap sources for high end cameras - where do professionals usually shop? in stores, or online? do you need a relationship with a place offline incase if there's problems, or if you have lens upgrades to buy, etc? This is another issue for purchases, do I need to do them? (my ex wife ordered online for the gap, yet I literally live 400-600 feet away from a gap on our block. WTF??).

There was one time I had a bad experience buying something on ebay. I bought a shirt, and after I washed it the first time, the whole design on it came off. Luckily I didn't pay that much for it. But as far as Amazon goes, I've never had a bad experience from there. I love Amazon. Its a trustworthy site, at least I believe it is.

Quick question, did you get my last e-mail? The only reason I ask is because hotmail has been acting really weird. It'll send my e-mails sometimes, and then it won't. I remember it was my response to something you sent. I just didn't want you to think I was ignoring you, and I wanted to make sure the important people got their e-mails.
