Most people just let their lobes close naturally, and most people didn't get their lobes scalpeled to BE big in the first place. I did. I chose to have plastic surgery so that they could not only be "put back together" but so they would LOOK as normal as possible.
The doc sliced directly through the lobe, and cut a wedge out (like a slice of pie). He then nipped a little extra flesh off the bottom, so that when they were sewn back together, they wouldn't hang low and look droopy. I had about 10 stiches in each lobe.
All this was done with local anesthetic, so I didn't feel a thing, and was awake for the entire procedure.
