Today is my birthday.
I am thirty years old today.
A few weeks ago, I was at a bookstore after hours and I saw a stuffed lion. For a sliver of a second, my mind registered the lion as real. In my world, I was in very real danger. It was time to climb a tree or use a rifle or run until I found a friend who couldn't run as fast as me. Then it was fine. But it was so real and silly I had to tell everyone I know about it. Last night, my friends Eric and Sarah (who calls me 'Jayifus' and makes me very happy when she does this) gave me a cherished present. It was a short picture book of photos illustrating Sarah being attacked and killed by the lion. It was not cool for Sarah dying, you see, but cool to make fun of me in such a ass-kicking way. It is brilliant and I don't think I've ever been given a gift I liked in the way I like this gift.
Today, I met with a consulting group who will be giving me some work from time to time. That was good.
I had sushi for lunch. That was good, too. I tried wasabi for the first time. It made me horny as all hell. I need to remember that.
I will soon be taking a nap and not studying for my certification exam (with not studying being my gift to me).
Tonight, I plan to go to dinner with my friends and family, go out to the bars after that, meet up with this pretty young girl named Kara at my favorite punk-rawk shithole bar and then go to an after-bars party that is half for my birthday and half for my friend Byron who is moving to LA.
All of these things give me happy.
