Even if you're going on a intuitive feel, if you're true to those ideals, sometimes they've got these harmonics, if you dick with them, you might ruin the harmonics. They would be bad things and people would start smelling a rat. You may not even understand those harmonics, but somebody out there might and it's true on that level and it's true on the harmonic levels. So you've got to be real careful.

Ahh, I love David Lynch...

David lynch has a mind you or I can not even begin to understand...So why try!! He has always been advant garde and will always be ahead of the game!!! This man is a genius...Much respect to him and his years of hard work and dedication.......Peace
punchdrunkblake:
David Lynch: Did it freak you out?
DRE:
Yes, it did.
DL:
Doggone.

That was great. Lynch speaks like he's living in the 50s.

I saw a trailer for INLAND EMPIRE the other day and the music and one shot in particular was really creepy but I'm still not digging the DV thing. Apparentely once you're in the movie it pulls you in and you get used to it but we'll see.

If I hate it I can always come home and put on the Blue Velvet DVD tongue
palacemuse:
Favorite interview so far. Well done. I love Lynch's language, it reminds me of several of his characters. Not surprising, I guess. And to Zoetica...I was one of those grad students asking questions at a Q&A. I hope I didn't offend you smile
palacemuse:
For those of us who like to hear the man speak...salon.com interview
abbie:
Some film friends of mine were talking about IE the other day and they were like "he didn't even have a script going in". I liked the way you set up your intro. This must have been a fascinating interview to do, and in person too. Amazing. Kudos.

Oh and ps Justin Theroux is a babeatron. I totally fell in love with his character in Mulholland Dr.
evanx:
Good interview, he's such brilliant man. smile
cassiel:
I adore him

I've been wondering where this interview took place. Because two weeks ago my entire restaurant in Cambridge was bought out for David and his publicist to conduct interviews and do a meet and greet with people about to see his screening. Now I'm wondering if, in addition to seeing Mr. Lynch, that I may have also inadvertantly run into Mr. Epstein.

The more I learn about David Lynch the more I like him.
I love all his movies, they have always had a eerie appeal to me and that's the way I like it.
Really is a great interview
jandersunstar:
Thanks for this great interview! Im a big fan of his work smile
tgulag:
Lynch is one interesting mofo! Had the odd fortune to encounter Lynch during my childhood; was in Scouts with his brother and three nephews. Can't begin to imagine what's in that mind!
critterfiddle:
Great filmaker.

Lost Highway is a masterpiece.
lovebird:
Great interview...and to think, it was just barely scratching the surface.
catprincess:
The best movie maker, my heroe !
Love him

Thanks for the great itw
dreamergirl:
Good stuff.
shearterror:
David Lynch is an enigma in my book. The man is more of a mystery, his mind lurking in dark shadows...and I simply adore the fact that he can paint the images from within his own twisted imagination into a movie. For the intelligent and artistic, evey piece of work he has done is a conversational mindfuck that everyone can explore and attempt to analyze together. Pure genius, hands down.

Cheers to Lynch, and definitely a great interview!
horseheadfiddle:
I avoided this interview 'cause I didn't want to know about Inland
Empire since I somehow missed seeing it in wherever theatre it
played in in Los Angeles.
I wish it was longer, a bit more in depth, but otherwise great!
odry:
It seems to me David Lynch dont like people but I like him & his films, it is really great! shocked
greatesthits:
All time hero. Her name is Lil.
davidle1:
David Lynch movies suck! There a huge waste of time and space! I seen a few of his movies all by accident! I would see the preview and go oh wow I gotta see that movie and hit rent. I would get the movie in the mail and eagerly put it in the DVD player only to say oh dam it i have been tricked again this is another David Lynch film that I was somehow duped into renting. I read he plays the guitar upside down and backwords and uses tons of effect pedals...He might play the guitar better then making a film? Anyway I won't unknowingly waste my time watching another crap lynch film

Lynch never discusses what his movies are about so you can read any of his interviews and never know what his film is about. Even if he told you it wouldn't make any kind of sense at all I think

I wish he was given an opportunity to create a new series for HBO. This boring world needs to see more of Lynch's magic weirdness.skull
