i know enough about depression to know that you just have to get through this bad time something else will come along soon to take your mind off of the bad stuff. watch a funny movie,do something that makes you smile even if its just a bit.
sometimes you just have to think about yourself for a bit instead of other ppl.

PS - your teacher is seriously wacked if he's telling students to write their own obits at 19 or so. Who needs that kind of depressing introspective at any age, let alone when you've only been out of high school for a year or two?

Thats a horrible assignment for a class. The teacher needs a slap upside the head. Go have a chat with em they'll probably let you do something else. There was a book that my teacher assigned called "In the Name of Science". Where the author goes off telling every attrocity that was proclaimed to be in the name of science. WW2 experiments japanese and german, cold war testing of mind altering drugs, and pretty much every other form of science that existed, aside from physics(besides electricution experiments). Well I had a chat with the prof and she told me to set aside the book and go do something a little less depressing. So do that and best of luck. Cheer up (i know its the last thing you want to hear)
