I've forgotten what it was like to have a blog where I didn't have to moderate what I say, because work-friends are reading...
The last couple weeks have really been fantastic. It first started with a friend from Tacoma staying over the weekend, joining me for tattooing and partying, and then some fantastic sock-shopping. I so love watching people explode over being introduced to something awesome. Especially when said awesomeness is OWL SOCKS!
Next was most of 1 week of conference in Dallas, surrounded by friends, and doing a presentation inspired by the stick-figure flashcards in Buffy the Vampire Slayer...followed immediately by most of another week in San Jose doing industry-related meetings. That was...not the most exciting, but I met some really awesome folks, including a professor from Montreal who wants to join forces so we can rule the world. Or, ya know, test latency. Which I'm hoping, more than a little, involves an in-person visit to his facilities.
In San Jose, I was talking to a guy who works for a company I almost took a job with, about why I turned it down. 70% travel? Eek! "I like having a social life!" to which he replied that going to conferences is his social life. While on some level that's kind sad to me, because it makes the road feel more like home than home, on another that's totally reasonable. This industry is like a family. Ya know, one which never really talks about super-personal matters, but still. But to a sort-of introvert, that could be do-able.
Came home, hung out with some folks, and a couple days later I was graced with another visitor. She and Hippomonki and Minnow and I headed out to see Coraline, all bedecked in polka-dot dresses and stripey tights, like giant goofy dolls. Such a fricking wonderful movie. Then we headed out to Chopsticks for a bit, and witnessed some karaoke...which was really not the same without our two favorite Karaoke demons (whose names on here escape me!), but still there was some awesome Johnny Cash action. And then, joy of joys, the next morning was started with my favoritest German restaurant evar, with 10 of my favoritest Ex-SGPDXers. Again with introducing the awesome... gigglecakes FTW!
Now I've got a conference call, followed by a visit from Mom. Joy!!
