Hmm. Actually, I think a more accurate way of determining friends, would be to make a post like this, but informing that whomever doesn't leave a comment on this thread, will be removed from friendship status. Then, go around to each friends' journal, and leave a little comment, to catch their attention. If they follow your name, and look at your journal, and want to leave a comment, then good; they're friends. If they just ignore your small comment on their journal, and don't go to see your journal (like I do daily), then delete them? Ya; sounds good.
