EARTH HOUR 2013
In just ten days, on the 23rd of March at 8:30pm I will be one of hopefully many people across the world observing Earth Hour shutting all our electrics off, with the exception of my freezer, for 1 hour.
From its humble beginnings in Sydney, Australia on the 31st of March in 2007, Earth Hour, originally conceived by WWF and Leo Burnett, has grown into something magnificent. Now people all over the world have been inspired to take part in Earth Hour each year to raise awareness about climate change and encourage the people of the world to take action.
This year Uganda has begun the first Earth Hour Forest, as a step to fight the 6000 hectares of deforestation that happen in the country every month. Earth hour is vitally important and it is our way to say to the world leaders and the would be destroyers of our planet, We aint gonna take this lying down.
Earth hour is your chance to show your support for our world not just for me, or for WWF but for you and your family, and your children and their children and the other future generations.
So what are you going to do for Earth Hour this year? How can you help tackle climate change? Well how bout starting by turning off your lights for Earth Hour at 8:30 pm on Saturday March 23rd, and just so you know its not GMT specific it s whenever it is 8:30pm in your home land.
Some great things to do in the hour, use the opportunity for a romantic candle dinner and candle light dancing for you and your partner, go stargazing, listen to the original radio play of War of the Worlds. (which you can get here https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/war-worlds-1938-original-cbs/id292128383 ) on your iPod and watch out for the martians, like I am going to, have a murder mystery party, there are lots of things you can do in the dark for one hour or even longer to get the message across even more!!! Just use your imagination.
You can also get involved and have your say by entering your story into WWFs Earthbook, right here http://www.earthbook2012.org/ and add your voice to thousands others, another cool way to celebrate and be seen and heard.
Helping to make our world a better place is not just the responsibility of the charities and organizations around the world, it is the responsibility of us all for the future generations whether they be ours, or others, and we should do our best to do so, and we should keep on doing so even after Earth Hour.
We can help by recycling, by turning off lights when we are not using rooms and turning of appliances at the wall when we are not using them.
I am as excited as a kid at Christmas, about Earth Hour and I hope you are too, why not leave a comment on my website and tell me what you are going to do in the dark at 8:30pm on March the 23rd this year for Earth Hour....and do try and behave, nothing that would corrupt my innocent readers too much ;-P
your with bright blessings and big hugs,
Rin
