I'm heading out to Beirut, Lebanon for six months. (Yay, car bombs.) skull

Syria, Iran, Egypt, and Jordan are also on my itinerary since I'll be in the neighborhood. Y'all keep an eye on things for me while I'm away.

If anyone is interested in six months worth of political reporting, travel writing, and "muddy boots" analysis, this is the place.

Hey Michael, just came back to the web site after a long hiatus. Don't know if you still stop by over here at SG, but I hope you're doing well. Saw on your blog that you and Chris Hitchens had a bit of a dust-up over in Lebanon. eeek frown Be careful over there!

Hi Michael

Formally, Hello.

I like the news at SG, and that is said as
a former still part time journalist.

Do you have somebody already working on
it; of if not -- would like how many words on
how the courageous strippers of new orleans
are back open, and offering discounts to all
reconstruction workers. Nothing says New Orleans ain't dead yet better than this story?

all the best, Drago

How safe did you feel in Beirut, as a civilian? I have been thinking of going there, but I don't know what the situation is like, other than the warnings on Embassy sites.
attack_macaque:
Just wanted to say that I think what you and Chris have planned for the newswire sounds like it's going to be great. Just another of the many reasons I love this site!

Regarding Beirut, for some reason when I think of you being over there I get this mental picture of a slightly less snarky P. J. O'Rourke. biggrin

It's been almost a year since I've added anything on this page. That's ridiculous and it needs to stop. Here's a filler post for now!

Hi Michael

I'm on the run or I would stop and look it up
for you, but if you don't know the Blumenthal
article of the levee written for Der Spiegel, it
talks about the 40% the Bush Administaration
cut from the Federal Budget which was going to
repair those levee's -- the actual link that had to
be there between Bush's insane spending on the war, and what just happened domestically.
This is blowback of a kind. And that is amazing.

All the best, Bob Callahan (Drago)
