If you know any veterans, take a minute today (or any day really) to contact him or her and say thanks.
My best friend Bob (may he rest in peace) was a Vietnam vet and said on several occasions how much it really did mean to him (and to other vets he knew) when someone acknowledged their contribution to our lives.
Lots of people lionize others when they pass, but I can honestly say that Bob made the world a better place. Not just because of his military service, but a variety of things he did. His contributions to society were all the more poignant because of the toll Vietnam had taken on him. He didn't talk about it much, he just carried on and tried to do the right things in life.
You never know when a few kind words could make someone feel appreciated and cared for. If you see a vet, please, take a second to acknowledge what they've done. They may not be here forever for you to say something and give them a bright moment in life.
I miss you buddy. Thank you for all that you did, and continue to do, in people's lives.
I hope YOU know how much I've appreciated your friendship~ you've gotten me to crack a smile when I didn't think it was even remotely possible
