i may be the worst vacationer ever, and, that's not exactly true. i take vacations all the time, and i do that very well. but here i am sitting on a ferry, drinking some secret smuggled beer, and realizing that probably every one else around me hit the road with a pocket full of money, some sort of plan, and a ferry schedule, that...

Planning is ridiculously overrated. If you enjoyed your vacation, that's all that matters. More power to ya for doing it off the cuff like that.

i spent all winter complaining about the cold and the drizzle and now i'm going to complain about the heat. i'm probably just too pent up in my apartment waiting for school to end. i don't know why i thought summer school would be some kind of fun...oh yeah, i didn't want to get a job. well, one more week...

yeah, this weather sucks. I left LA for a reason, actually for many reasons, but one of the reasons I left was to escape the sun. But it followed me here. And they told me that you don't need to water your plants in Oregon... Bollocks.

i am entranced. feeling a little goofy. light-headed and woozy. thanks.

i'm not really sure if bowling is a sport, but i'm pretty sure i'm bad at it. that's how it always goes with me and sports. so last night when i was bowling, it was cheap night somewhere, it was much more about the dollar beers then any physical prowess on my part. always picked last in grade school, and now...

Don't worry, bowling is only for fat, white trash who actually call it a sport. But that's the beauty of it. I was in a bowling league once and we named our team the Pin Heads. We sucked really bad too.

icepick:

I remember bowling once... painfully... watching my friends drink $1 beers while I tried my best to hit some (any) of the pins. My score: 37. I really think that's the best, especially combined with your 33. Sports are much, much more fun when played by the completely inept. I generally hate sports, and in no small part because professional athletes are just too good at whatever sport they do. Makes it boring.

i say people keep leaving me, doing whatever they have to , living their lives somewhere else...still i don't find that so easy. everyone always walking away, for good or for bad, this town seems to create deserters. even those who don't grow up here. it's a great place to stay and, yet, everyone always seems to be running away. i think...

I can assure you, you're not the last person in & from Portland -- And I don't plan on leaving anytime soon if I can help it. smile

rogueboy:

I feel the same way about Las Vegas. Being born and raised here, I watched over a million outsiders walk in and there's no real sense of community. Perhaps that's why so many people here just pack up and leave. I personally can't wait to desert (heh, bad unintentional pun) this dry, sin-infested wasteland and go somewhere worthwhile.

I dunno about Portland. Seems like a mecca for people here in town; a goal. A LOT of old friends have moved there, and I guess many feel the same way about Vegas.

Every best friend I've ever had has moved away in my lifetime and I just had to get used to loss. You can only be so detached for so long, though, and perhaps a change of locale might be the best thing for both of us.

i've been hiding out for so many months now...hopefully i'm almost over that. it's time to get out of my house...actually that's a bit of a lie, i've hardly been in my home at all recently, i've been keeping myself somewhere between work and school. i've been a bit down lately, it seems my friends keep...

i'm stuck at home. i want to see my good friend max but my car is broken. i live just that far away. i feel some kind of locked up winter bordem. i've rearanged everything trying to pretend like it's a new place. maybe i'm somewhere else. sans cold, sans rain, sans everything. i'm ready to go somewhere new.

When Hitler got in, he got rid of all of Hindenburg's cabinet and he replaced them with industrialists and let the industrialists run the country. He cut taxes to the rich, he banned unions, and that was called European style fascism.

How very Republican.

This is great interview.

This is such a good interview! His most recent album didn't leave our car's CD player for months. I'm really happy to find that he's also articulate and thoughtful. Good questions too.

keeperdesign:

Really good interview. It's a delight to have someone talk to Ronson who's invested enough in Duran's career to know what they're talking about. Thanks Nicole!

I remember Trina Robbins' work from the '70s very well. I always admired her for calling a spade a spade, which is to say that the underground comix I loved so much had a deep thread of misogyny, and she pointed it out in her work. Gadflies don't get a lot of offers.

I'm sorry to hear she isn't working as an artist anymore, but I'm very glad to hear she's doing the kind of writing she wants to do. Not many people are so lucky. Go Trina.

I actually preordered the Tarpe Mills collection in April. I'm interested in how it turns out.
