I did a double-take when I read this week’s homework : ‘List the most recent sexist/racist/classist/homophobic (discrimination of any kind) thing….’ (I think - “EASY! I got plenty of those stories!”)

‘…..that you have encountered this week.’ (I think – “This WEEK?! I’ve either been in traffic, working on my laptop, or at the gym. I’ve barely interacted with humans this week...

Here's my top 10 soundtracks:

I want to start out with a couple things regarding the porn industry in general, because a lot of other reviews of this movie out there are accusing the film of depicting the porn industry in a negative view when in fact the movie only wants to show the amateur porn side of the business, nothing else. Why does someone have sex with people in...

Working on my capstone, my internship write-up, and three different final essays... I hate May.

So I have the best girlfriend ever, and if you read the title you would have already known that. As you may know, I am a broke college student and so food and provisions for one such as me are scarce and hard to come by. Knowing that, my girlfriend sent me not one, but TWO boxes of goodies for me, that did not stop...

The health insurance industry in this country is out of fucking control. It is my opinion that no one should monetarily profit from health care, and these fuckers are taking us all to the bank. Grab your ankles and some lube, Americans. This shit is just going to get sloppier.

Okay, kiddos.  I had to log on at a real computer to tackle this. For those of you who would like to be educated about "Obamacare", the Affordable Care Act (ACA) read on.  This is long and tedious: GOOD things about the ACA - 1. dependents have coverage through age 26, regardless of student status 2. those with pre-exisiting conditions cannot be barred from participating in a health care plan (as a mechanism to keep down costs and maximize profits, insurance companies used to mitigate their risk by denying people with chronic illnesses the ability to purchase and actually utilize health care) 3. Large employers (about 50+ employees) must offer "affordable" (we'll get to that definition in a bit) health care plans to all full time employees (work an average of 30+ hours per week) and their child dependents (employers are not required to offer coverage to spouses).  You may think that's fine, but what about people with no jobs or with part time jobs? Another good feature of the ACA was the creation of  4. the health care exchange. The beauty of the exchange is that insurance companies offer plans, but if they are outrageously expensive, AND you don't work for an employer who offers an "affordable" health care plan, you qualifies to receive subsidies - money that the government pays to the insurance company, essentially sharing the cost of the premium, to make your plan more affordable to you the worker.  5. All preventative services (i.e. physicals, immunizations, regular diagnostic exams at the appropriate milestones in life) are done at no cost to individual (no copay, no fee for the procedure period). 6. there are out-of-pocket limits per plan year.  These are all good things.  Everyone in this country deserves to get health care, and they deserve not to pay out the ass for it. Let's get into the BAD things about the ACA 1. If you work at an employer who offers an affordable health care plan, you do not qualify for subsidies through the exchange. You may think, why is this a problem if people are being offered the purchase of affordable health care through their employers? Let's look at the definition of "affordable." In order for a plan to be affordable, the employee's portion premium must not exceed 9.5% of the employee's salary.  Great!  Seems affordable. But that's for Employee Only health care. 2. Out-of-pocket maximums: in one 12 month period, the most a family can pay out of pocket for medical expenses incurred is I believe now up to $13,700.  A year.  And that is just for if you actually use the insurance.  3. Premiums are rocketing out of control because insurance companies need to get more money coming in.  They need to turn a profit for their investors! :(  The employer also has to offer coverage for your child dependents, but the employer is under no obligation to help shoulder much of the cost of the premium for these child dependents. And let's not forget the free wellness exams. Somebody has to pay for those. Remember the riskier health care plan participants, those pesky folks who have legitimate health care concerns and have expensive, recurrent charges? Insurance companies are not good at heart.  They are passing the costs on to the employers.  Employers who may be successful and for-profit may do a good job of paying a good chunk of the premium for Employee + Family plans.  But employers who are non-profit (think foster care agencies or school districts) are getting eaten alive with funding cuts, and to remain open and operating, they must in turn pass the high premium costs onto their employees.  Right now, a standard plan with a $4500 deductible, with that aforementioned $13,700 out of pocket limit - the premium for this family plan in our area, with a fairly restrictive network, is about $1600 per month.  All those figures add up to a FUCKLOAD OF MONEY for those who may be making only $10 per hour.  My opinion - this mess would be solved with a single payer system. They could negotiate better rates and quell the capitalistic orgy that is our health care system.  But those fat cats with their paws full o' money and their claws in our political system, they won't allow that to happen.  So I will continue to fret and hope change will come. Summary - ACA: the intent was good, but the execution is still screwing the working class - our continual Dickens-esque plight in life, methinks :) And I can't even get started on the roles for-profit health care providers and big pharma play here.  It's just too much.  ACA - I'm glad more people have access to healthcare.  I'm sad that it's still so damn expensive for so many.

Dude. I fucking agree! The medical industry is all about money. They only care about matching drugs to symptoms, not healing the person!! You can find a natural and thus cheaper remedy for any and all ailments!!! americans need to stop giving control of their health to the dr!! People know themselves better than any dr could! Health needs to be addressed on a completely wholistic and individual level! All drugs are derived from nature in some way! There is no excuse for people to let themselves be victims! Yet unfortunately it all boils down to fear and ignorance of Americans... Fear that the public will realize they can heal themselves just as well as any dr and drug; fear and doubt in an individuals ability to heal itself (which as an esthetician I know the extraordinary healing ability and intelligence of our skin cells alone!!! Our bodies can heal us faster and better than any dr if we give it the right fuel!) People need to understand that going to a dr to heal you entirely, is like asking a dr to completely clean and organize your house!!! You know yourself and how you react to things better than any dr... I honestly dont trust drs, they have never helped me, I always ended up getting better on my own or through natural home remedies! ✌️
