Hello true believers! (I've always liked that...)
Where did we leave off? Today is a fantastic day and it's only just beginning. It's just one of those days when you wake up without hitting snooze, you take the doggies for a walk in the crisp morning air, you hit all the greens on the way to work. Yes today is going to be a good day.
Workaholic
Well not really, I just love my job. I work for a professional sports team in Canada. If any of you have even heard of the CFL, well that's what I'm a part of. It's one big family that's just a lot of fun to be a part of and pretty much everyone knows everyone. This is my 5th season with my particular club and it's funny because 5 years ago I wouldn't have thought this would be my dream job. I took several subjects while I was in post-secondary, actually I changed my mind so often that I nearly considered just dropping school to really find my calling. I started off by enlisting to be a physics major, I had already dabbled in quantum and string theory so that' what I wanted to pursue but after a few months of that I got bored of it and switch over to computer programming. I really enjoyed that. I got to build and program circuit boards which was my favourite part. After my first year however one of my teachers recommended that I switch to a different program because of the creativity she saw in me. So I switched over to graphic and web design which is what I have my degree in.
Amature filmmaker
I made my first "film" when i was about 7 or 8. It was one of those super cheesy magic shows that I used film editing to create most of my magic. As I got older I started making movie with scripts and budgets. Has anyone seen Super 8? That was pretty much me as a kid, minus the aliens and Super 8 because I shot on VHS. I also got pretty good at special effects and makeup. Funny side story, when I was in high school I was part of the drama club and it always amused me at how I could do stage makeup better than most girls. I continued to make films all the way through high school and college. The last film I made (and one of my worst) was CHUD Busters. It was a parody of Ghostbusters shot in the style of the TV show The Office. The reason why I'm telling you all of this is because this is how I got my job. I submitted CHUD Busters and Flaming Fantasy, which is one of my favourites, and after they watched them they brought me on board because of my awesome editing skills.
I've never actually taken any school for anything to do with video, which is something I regret. you'd think a kid growing up making films would want to grow up to be a filmmaker, but no I wanted to be a scientist. How nerdy is that?

Right now I'm working on developing the characters and story for a science fiction story. I'm not sure yet if I want it to be a book or multiple books or even just break it down to a few short stories. The premise is that in 2003 Earth sent out Cosmic Call 2 to several different constellations and in September of 2044 one of those call will reach Andromeda. A few years later we receive a reply from the Andromeda galaxy that is in a different language but holds some key principles to universal communication (like math and music). So a team is put together and trained and then sent to the Andromeda Galaxy in search for first contact. What I thought would be interesting to do is make it so that humans are the advanced race in the galaxy. We always sort of assume that aliens will come here and make first contact with us, but my story is more about mankind initiating that instead. I have a lot more written down about the story and if you'd like to know more or maybe help me bounce some ideas around I'd love to chat more about it!
Side notes
My sister and her fiance are visiting his family in Ottawa, so while they're gone I'm looking after his dogs. Their names are Burt and Ernie, they're corgi crosses and Ernie only has one eye. I think my cat Atari enjoys having them around and I also think she enjoys tormenting them. One instance was this morning as I was getting ready for work, Atari was running around (as usual, she's pretty crazy in the mornings) and Burt and Ernie were laying down at the bottom of the stairs. Atari kept leaping over Burt and every time he looked to see what it was, Atari would be gone again. I actually think he was getting scared haha. Then the best part was when Atari used Ernie as a springboard to go up the stairs. One of the funniest things I have ever seen. Ernie jumped up and looked all over and didn't see anything, he looked really confused and I had a really good laugh about it.
That's it for now fellow readers. Until next time, keep it real!
Cheers,
Jay
