@rambo @missy @lyxzen The best day of my life so far, would unquestionably be the day I finished pledging for my fraternity.
The feelings of accomplishment and relief were beyond anything that I had felt before, or since.
I'm not married and have never had kids, so the last 27 years of my life has been dedicated to my brotherhood, both at the chapter level and our national governing board level. I'm also a lifelong member of my chapter alumni board and our national alumni board.
Most people have a lot of preconceptions about what fraternity pledging entails, based on movies such as Animal House (Love the movie, btw)
and Old School. Also a great one. (Note-pictures do not reflect actual events)
For the vast majority of fraternities, the reality is quite different. Pledging is certainly a time of stress, but it is also a time of learning and bonding. You learn about the history of your chapter, and the fraternity as a whole (If you have more chapters) You do projects with your fellow pledges and your brothers. Philanthropy is required, and it all adds a lot of time to a full load of classes.
Of course, you've got to have a ceremony.
And then there are always those who will rain on your parade.
But all in all, it's been a tremendously positive experience for me. Although I can't be as physically active as I used to be, I'm still in contact with many people and take occasional road trips, as long as I can be back home to sleep. Now I think I need to watch Animal House, PCU or Old School again!
