My life moves slowly.
I need to finish my college degree -- I only have 6 credits left to get my BA -- but I don't have the money to pay for them.
I left school to take a job, thinking if I had a real job as a newspaper writer that I would be able to pay my bills. What a joke! I work for a newspaper owned by the Journal Register Company: they pay less than shit.
Anyway, I enjoy my job, at least. But my lack of a college degree hangs over my head like a black stormcloud, and occassionally its rain pisses down on me.
I keep looking for a new job, but journalism jobs are few and far between. And they all pay shit.
My school loans are due now; I have been in deferment for a year. I owe $22,000 total on five seperate loans.
I guess it's really not so much. I read last week that the average student debt is like $19,000, so I am not that far off.
I just wish I could cover all my other overdue bills without having this one tacked on. I probably owe an additional $3,000 in other bad debt. And that stuff never goes away. Creditors just sell your bad debt to a credit collection agency after a while, and then the new company hounds you for a few years and mucks up your credit scores.
And now I owe another $22,000 for college, but I don't actually have the degree. I could probably dig myself out of debt and go back to school for a total of about $5,000.
The crazy thing is that I am making progress. But so slowly.
